Box Score 2 TUSCON, Ariz. - The Simpson softball team continued play today in the Tuscon Invitational as they took on Nelson University (AZ) in its first game of the day.
The Warriors drew first blood as they plated one run in the top of the first inning before the Red Hawks answered back in the bottom half of the inning with two runs.
A one-out single by
Kassandra Soria started a chain of three straight hits as
Brianna Lopez-Cortez and
Hollee Jamison notched back-to-back RBI doubles to get Simpson on the board.
Nelson tied the game in the third inning as Simpson reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning as a leadoff infield single by Jamison came around to score on an RBI double by
Madyson Welch.
But it proved to be all Nelson for the rest of the way as they plated seven runs over the final three innings to take the 9-3 victory.
Jamison led the Red Hawks seven hit performance as she posted two hits including an RBI double.
Simpson finished the second day of the invite in a 1 pm game against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference member, Viterbo University.
The Red Hawks finished the day strong as they took down the V-Hawks 8-2 to earn a split on the day as they improved to 1-3 in the invite.
Simpson is back in action tomorrow as they take on Mayville State at 12 pm and Mount Mercy at 2 pm to round out play in the Tuscon Invite.
