KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Simpson softball team dropped its first game of the 2026 Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament today against No.6 Southern Oregon University, 13-2.
The Raiders jumped on the board first as they plated three runs in the top of the first inning, as Vanessa Lang drove home the game's first run on an RBI triple, followed by a sacrifice fly by Brooke Nordahl. Lexi Ramirez capped the inning with a solo shot to give SOU the 3-0 lead.
Southern Oregon exploded in the second inning as they scored nine runs off six hits to take the commanding 12-0 lead. The Raiders used a heavy-dose of small ball as they laid down three bunts while Elysia Duarte provided the big swing of the inning with a three-run blast.
The Red Hawks offense showed life in the top of the third inning as the first four batters of the inning reached base safely, which included three straight hits by
Kassandra Soria,
Grace Chojnacki, and
Adriana Delaney. Delaney added an RBI single while
Nayzeth Gonzalez drove home a run on an RBI groundout.
A solo blast by Ari Williams in the bottom of the third inning capped off the Raiders 13-2 victory to advance to the winners bracket.
In the circle, Ayla Davies picked up the win as she tossed 4.0 innings of two-run ball.
Jacquelyn Lujan suffered the loss as she exited in the second inning due to injury after surrendering nine runs in 1.1 innings of work.
On offense, the Red Hawks notched four hits, singles by Soria, Chojnacki, Delaney, and
Olivia Bicondova.
With the loss, Simpson drops into the losers bracket as they play in an elimination game tomorrow against College of Idaho at 9 am.
