Simpson softball drops extra inning thriller to C of I to conclude the 2026 season

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Simpson softball team wrapped up its 2026 season in the Cascade Collegiate Conference softball tournament today as they fell to College of Idaho, 3-2 in a 10-inning thriller.

The Red Hawks drew first blood in the third inning on an RBI double laced down the left field line by Kassandra Soria. But the Yotes responded in the fourth on a solo blast by Kina Watts to even the score.

Soria came through again for the Red Hawks as she gave Simpson the lead with a towering solo home run to left field in the fifth inning.

Down to their final out, the Yotes scratched across the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Watts.

The Red Hawks and Yotes remained deadlocked at a 2-2 ball game as the game moved into the 10th inning.

Three-straight Yotes reached base to begin the bottom of the 10th inning as Chloe Flerchinger played hero for the Yotes with a two-strike sacrifice fly to center field.

Grace Chojnacki took the tough loss as she allowed three runs over 9.1 innings of work while striking out five batters. Yotes starter Drew Williams notched the no-decision while Watts picked up her seventh win of the year in relief.

Senior Kassandra Soria led the Simpson offense with a two-for-four game while driving in both runs. Watts swung the hot-bat for the Yotes as she also went two-for-four with two-RBIs.

With the loss, Simpson's first year in the Cascade Collegiate Conference comes to a close as they earned the sixth seed in the conference tournament.

Simpson says goodbye to seniors: Brianna Lopez-Cortez, Kassandra Soria, Jessica Heck, Nicolena Holen, Jessica Ulshoeffer, Jayden Bayani, Isabella Contreras, and Jordan Adami.

Simpson heads into the offseason as they look to re-tool to make a deep playoff run in the Cascade Conference next year.
