CALDWELL, Idaho - The Red Hawks dropped the twin-bill today against the College of Idaho 6-1 and 11-0.
Simpson grabbed the early lead on a leadoff solo home run to straightaway center field by
Brianna Lopez-Cortez. However, the Yotes offense caught fire in the second inning as they plated five runs on five hits while capitalizing on one Simpson error.
College of Idaho extended its lead in the fifth inning on a Red Hawks error to allow the sixth run of the game to cross home plate.
Kina Watts kept the Simpson offense quiet as she scattered seven hits over seven innings to earn the win in the circle. Simpson's
Lily Rojas took the loss as she allowed six runs over five innings of work before handing the ball to
Katelyne Robinett.
Nicolena Holen and Lopez-Cortez led the Simpson offense with two-hit performances as Lopez-Cortez produced the lone run on a solo home run.
Audrey Sweat posted the lone multi-hit game for the Yotes while Madelyn Powell stroked a two-run double.
Game 2:
The Yotes offense exploded in the series finale as they scored 11 runs on 11 hits to take the fourth game 11-0 in run-rule fashion.
The College of Idaho exploded in the fourth inning for seven runs on five hits, combined with two Simpson errors, as a three-run home run by Hallie Campbull highlighted the inning.
Rylee Smith earned the win in the circle as she hurled the five-inning shutout victory, scattering three hits.
Ysabella Villegas and Campbell led the Yotes 11 hit game with each posting a two-hit game. Katie Sturm and Campbell provided the big swings as they each posted three RBI's.
Simpson's
Jessica Ulshoeffer took the loss in the circle as she tossed 2.0 innings of two run ball before handing the ball to
Nadia Stroh.
The Red Hawks posted three hits on singles by
Shelby Flournoy,
Madison Guzman, and Anegla Taylor Ortiz.
Looking forward, the Red Hawks qualified for the CCC Tournament next weekend as they await the the brackets and seeding to be announced tomorrow. The tournament will be held in Ashland, OR May 1-3.
