Simpson Softball seniors go out on top with 40th win

REDDING, Calif.- The Red Hawks finished their regular season off in style as they completed a sweep over Benedictine University at Mesa 6-0 and 6-5. The wins take SU's overall season record to 40-4.

Paris Hallums pitched in game one for the Red Hawks and she was dominant taking a no-hitter into the final inning with two outs before Benedictine finally got to her for a hit. She would would finish the game allowing only two walks and the one hit in a complete game shutout.

Hallums would get run support in the first inning when Madison Wright singled to score Kaylana Mah and then Courtney Thomas doubled to score Wright. In the second, SU added another run when Jaycie Bruno scored on a Mah single to make it 3-0.

In the sixth inning, Simpson would double their lead scoring three runs with bases loaded off a triple from Bruno to score Marissa Marmolejo, Amanda Laughlin and Jessica Dager to make it 6-0 which the Red Hawks would hold on to for the win. 

In game two the Red Hawks would be aided by a huge second inning scoring six runs after Benedictine scored twice in the first. The inning was highlighted by a Jessica Dager three run homer. Benedictine would score two in the fifth inning an one more in the seventh before Hallums completed a stellar day coming in to slam the door shut earning the save in relief. Carlye Avey earned the win going 6.2 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits.

The Red Hawks will now look forward to the NAIA National Regional which they will host May 16-18 at Simpson Softball Field.
