No. 8 Simpson Softball splits with La Sierra

REDDING, Calif.- The Red Hawks were back at it on Thursday as they opened up their league play at home against the Golden Eagles from La Sierra University. The teams would split a double header with game one going to the Golden Eagles 1-0 and game two to the Red Hawks 3-2.

Game one saw Paris Hallums as the starter for the Red Hawks. The Golden Eagles would get to her for one run in the first which would prove to be the difference as both pitchers were dominant in the game. La Sierra starter Sarai Camacho held the Red Hawks to just one hit which came from Kaylana Mah in the bottom of the first inning. Hallums was the hard luck loser in the game as she only allowed 2 hits in the game striking out 8 batters.

In game two the Red Hawks would score early as they got one in the first when Madison Wright scored on a Courtney Thomas single. They doubled that advantage in the second when a Missy Silveira's Sac Fly scored Emily Powers. Again the Red Hawks were at it in the third inning scoring another run on a Kara Wall single scoring Kristin Beckman to make it 3-0 after three innings.

The Eagles would make a comeback bid in the sixth inning as they score twice to make it 3-2 but their attempt at the comeback fell short as the Red Hawks held on for the 3-2 win.

Carlye Avey earns the win allowing just 2 runs on 7 hits in 7 innings.

Beckman was 2-3 at the plate scoring once in the winning effort.

The teams would finish the series on Friday in a double header starting at 12pm.
