REDDING, Calif. - The baseball team has qualified for postseason play for the third time in the last four years under Head Coach Dan Tating.
However, this is the highest they have ever been seeded in the Cal Pac tournament as they are the #3 seed.
The tournament begins on Wednesday and will run through Friday in a double-elimination format that is hosted by Benedictine and will be played at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, AZ.
The tournament consists of five teams; Benedictine (1), Embry-Riddle (2), Simpson (3), Westcliff (4), and Park-Gilbert (5).
Simpson is coming into the tournament with its best conference record in program history (14-7) and has defeated every team in the conference at least once this season.
The offense is hitting .285 as a team in conference and has five different players batting over .300 in conference play. This includes
Logan Gomes,
Maximiliano Lopez,
Kade Kupihea,
Titus Sato, and
Micah Kele.
The Simpson pitching staff has seen its greatest success in recent history as they post a 5.49 ERA in conference play.
The starting rotation is anchored by
Eric Winchester,
Jaydon Tomas, and
Garrett Brogdon. While the bullpen has been nails when called upon as relievers
Chad Horton,
Geremy McCollough,
Eddie Avalos,
Dalton Alford, and
Nathan Palacioz combined for a 7-0 record with eight saves.
Simpson will take on #2 Embry-Riddle at 12:30 PM in the second game on Wednesday.
The Red Hawks look to flip the script as they lost the series to Embry-Riddle back in mid-March.
If they win they will play at 10 AM on Thursday against the winner of Ben U and Park/Westcliff.
But if they lose, they will play in the elimination game on Wednesday at 5:30 PM against the loser of Westcliff and Park.
Simpson looks to make a deep playoff run in hopes of breaking the all-time single-season wins record (20) and winning its first-ever conference title.
