Simpson staves off elimination, cruises past Florida National

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Red Hawks kept their season alive as they took down Florida National 13-5 in tonight's elimination game.

Simpson jumped on the board in the first inning as a lead-off single by JJ Torrente came around to score on a RBI single by Duke Aloy.

The Conquistadors tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI double by Christopher Rivera. But a great relay from Mario Catalan to Eric Mora helped cut down the go-ahead run at the plate.

A pitchers' duel between Simpson's Bo Valladao and Florida Nationals Erik Fuentes exchanged zeros to keep the game knotted at one until the seventh inning.

The Red Hawks broke the 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh inning on a missed opportunity by the Conquistador  defense as a two-out fly ball fell harmlessly in the infield to push across the go-ahead runs.

Simpson broke the game open in the top of the eighth inning as they plated six runs on two hits while benefiting from three errors and three walks. The inning included an RBI double by Cayden Lee, a sacrifice fly by Cesar Ortega, and was capped off by a steal of home by Aden Munoz.

Florida National cut into the deficit on a three-run home run by Alejandro De Armas, but the Red Hawks answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning on RBI base knocks by Aloy, Munoz, and Mora.

The Red Hawks closed out the 13-5 victory to keep their season alive as they set up a west coast battle against Westcliff tomorrow at 11 am (EDT).

Munoz led the Simpson offense with three hits and three RBI's. JJ Torrente, Cayden Lee, Cesar Ortega, and Duke Aloy each added two hits as they combined for four RBIs.

Bo Valladao earned the win as he posted a quality start, scattering three hits and two runs over seven innings of work while striking out three.
