Simpson celebrates senior day with two wins over Nelson (AZ)

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson baseball team celebrated 12 seniors today as they took two games from Nelson (AZ), 15-5 and 6-1.

Before the first game, the Red Hawks honored 14 seniors; Jackson Berry, Gage Hoyle, Cesar Ortega, Owen Hayes, Chandler Jones, Mario Catalan, Brock Gilligan, Cayden Lee, Nathan Palacioz, Kody Phillips, Cameron Erickson, Qorey Houston, Bo Valladao, and Aden Munoz

The Red Hawks and Warriors both plated one run in the first inning as Jimmy Holloway drove in the game's first run before the Red Hawks answered in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Bo Valladao

Simpson exploded for nine runs over the next two innings as they plated six runs in the second inning and three in the third.

Back-to-back bases-loaded walks to Nui Sato and Aden Munoz set up a grand slam by Cayden Lee to extend the Red Hawks' lead 7-1 in the second inning before adding three more runs to take the commanding 10-1 lead.

A four-run bottom of the sixth inning helped move the Red Hawks into run-rule territory as back-to-back home runs by JJ Torrente and Eric Mora highlighted the inning.

Senior starter, Qorey Houston, picked up the win as he tossed five innings of three-run ball while scattering six hits and striking out six batters.

On offense, the Red Hawks registered 11 hits as Sato, Torrente, Mora, and Mario Cataln each posted two-hit games as they combined for five RBI's.

Game 2:

The Red Hawks closed out the weekend with a 6-1 victory to take the series against the Warriors.

Simpson plated four runs in the first three innings, highlighted by an RBI single by Aden Munoz and a bases-loaded walk to Torrente.

The Warriors scratched across one run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI groundout by Ethan Gustafason.

An RBI triple by Mario Catalan, followed by an RBI single by Jackson Berry, extended the Red Hawks' lead to 6-1.

This proved to be more than enough for starter, Bo Valladao, as he fired 5.0 shutout innings while striking out five batters to pick up his third win of the year.

Cayden Lee and Aden Munoz paced the Simpson bats with three-hit performances.

Simpson looks to hit the road this week as they close out the regular season in Atherton, CA, as they take on Menlo for a doubleheader on Tuesday, beginning at 11 am.
