Game Recap: Softball |

Simpson Softball returns home and earns two wins

REDDING, Calif.-The Red Hawks returned home on Saturday to take on the Pioneers from Antelope Valley in a double header. Impressive pitching performances from the Red Hawks held the Pioneers scoreless in both game with the Red Hawks securing a 2-0 victory in game one and 4-0 in game two.

In game one of the double header Paris Hallums took the ball for the Red Hawks and was in vintage form shutting down the Pioneer offense.

Hallums' run support would come in the fourth inning when Madison Wright would reach base after being hit in the head by a pitch. She would be okay and eventually come around to score the games first run on a Kristin Beckman single to shallow right field. The Red Hawks would then capitalize on an error which would score Bailey Akins to give the Red Hawks a 2-0 lead.

Pioneers starting pitcher put in a outstanding performance and was the hard luck loser in the game as she only allowed 2 hits in 6 innings of work.

Hallums was the winner for the Red Hawks scattering 4 hits over 7 innings of shutout work striking out 9 batters.

The Red Hawks two hits came from Beckman who was 1-3 with an RBI and Jessica Dager who was 1-2 at the plate.

In game two Carlye Avey took the ball for the Red Hawks and continued the dominant pitching from the Red Hawks on the day. After holding the Pioneers to just one hit in the top half of the first inning Courtney Thomas would single to left field to score Kaylana Mah in the bottom half of the inning to take a 1-0 lead.

The Red Hawks would add three more in the third inning with two runs scoring on a Kristen Beckman single to left then Wall scored on a Rachel Esse single to right which could have been more as Beckman was thrown out at home plate in a close call to end the inning.

The runs would be more than enough for Avey who allowed just 3 hits in the game in 7 innings of work striking out 6 batters earning the win.

Madison Wright and Kristen Beckman both had multiple hit games with Beckman adding 2 RBI's.

The series will be completed Sunday, April 3rd in a double header starting at 11am.
