SU Softball Sweeps Oaks

ATHERTON, Calif. - Simpson softball team earned a pair of victories over former conference foe Menlo College, 3-1 and 10-2 at Wunderlich Filed in Atherton, CA.

Game 1
The Red Hawks would get off to a quick start scoring two runs in the second inning, for an early 2-0 lead. The Oaks would score a run in the fifth to narrow the gap 2-1. SU plated one more run in the sixth to make it 3-1 entering the seventh inning.

In the seventh, Paris Hallums would only allow two hits, putting a runner at first and second. Hallums would walk Menlo batter Alaina Morgan, but due to an illegal substitution that occurred earlier in the game with a pinch runner, Morgan was called out at first. Hallums would strike out the next two batters and earn the victory 3-1.

Taylor Hill, Kaylana Mah, and Courtney Thomas each scored a run for the Red Hawks. Hill, Thomas, Kristin Beckman, Bailey Akins, and Amanda Laughlin each recorded a hit. Hallums was given the victory, pitching seven innings while striking out eight batters and allowing five hits.

Game 2
In game two, through first seven innings it was a pitchers dual, as each team would only give up two runs.

It wasn't until the eighth inning, that the Red Hawks had an offensive explosion scoring eight runs on two hits to seal the victory 10-2.

Carlye Avey pitched a great game striking out six batters, gave up two runs and allowed six hits in eight innings. Thomas led SU with three RBI's. Thomas and Mah each recorded two hits and two runs. Missy Silveira had one hit and one run and Beckman posted two hits and one run. Jaycie Bruno, Madison Wright and Marisa Marmolejo each plated one run for Red Hawks.

The sweep of Menlo, puts Simpson at 20-2 on the season. This is the best start in the program's history.

The Red Hawks will open up conference play at home March 20th in a doubleheader against La Sierra University. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
