LEWISTON, ID - The Red Hawks were in action on Saturday in a double header vs. the Lewis-Clark State College Warriors. The Warriors swept the double header 11-5 and 9-6.The Red Hawks scored first in the game in the second inning on a Rath Moseley single to centerfield scoring Casey Meyer.
The Warriors would answer quickly scoring once in the bottom half of the frame to tie up the game. They would go on to add ten more unanswered runs including one in the third inning, four in the fifth inning and five in the sixth inning to make it 11-1.
The Red Hawks would try and chip away at the lead and the would get three runs back in her seventh inning when Matthew Kiyota's single down the line scored Blaine Hokama and Meyer before Mosley scored on a balk later in the inning. The Red Hawks would add another run in the eighth inning on a Dylan Mumford RBI double to make it 11-5. That would be all the Red Hawks could come up with offensively and they would fall to the same score line. James Humphrey would get the loss for the Red Hawks allowing 5 runs on 2 hits in 5 innings of work. Aaron Curfman was 2-4 in the game with Casey Meyer also adding two hits and scoring twice in the game.
In game two both teams would score early as the Warriors took an early 1-0 lead in first inning. The Red Hawks would answer with one of their own to knot the game at 1-1 when Kiyota scored on a wild pitch.
The Warriors would make sure the tie was short lived as they would strike for three more in the second inning to make it 4-1.
Not to be out done the Red Hawks would storm back in the third inning scoring five times on seven hits to take back the lead. Meyer got the scoring started in the inning with a RBI double to score Kyle Ferguson. Dylan Mumford's single would score George Cecchetti before Meyer and Mumford would both score on a wild pitches. Chase Root finished the scoring in the inning when his RBI single score Mosley giving the Red Hawk's back the lead at 6-4.
The Red Hawks could not hold off the Warrior surge as they got one back in the fourth inning, two in the sixth inning and two in two in the eighth to seal the 9-6 win.
Humberto Solorio was the loser for the Red Hawks allowing 7 runs in 7 hits in 6 innings of work. Kyle Ferguson was 3-5 from the plate scoring once with Mumford also going 3-5 with a RBI and a run scored.
The Red Hawks will look to rebound and finish the series with a win tomorrow as they close out the trip with one game at 12pm.
