Red Hawks drop two at The Master's College on Opening Day

SANTA CLARITA, Calif.- The Red Hawk Men's baseball team opened their season on Friday when the traveled to Southern California to take on the #10 ranked Mustangs from The Master's College. The double header saw the Red Hawks on the wrong side of both games losing game one 7-4 and game two 9-0.

In game one James Humphrey took the mound and he stared strongly as he would start off his season with 3 shoutout innings allowing 2 hits. The Mustangs would get on the board first in the 4th inning when a error would eventually end up allowing Mustang catcher Aaron Shackelford to score an unearned run. The top of the 5th inning saw the Mustangs add 3 more runs on 3 hits and an error. In the 8th inning the Mustangs would lead 6-0 when the Red Hawks would finally break through with 3 of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The inning would begin with Mustang pitcher Nick Brooks coming in relief and he would proceed to hit the first three batters he faced. With the bases loaded Red Hawk centerfielder Casey Meyer walked scoring Kyle Ferguson for the first run of the season. The other two Red Hawk runs would score on passed balls in the inning. In the 9th inning the Mustangs would add another making it 7-3 before Matthew Kiyota grounding out to shortstop scoring Dylan Mumford who reached on a double.

Humphrey was hit with the loss allowing 2 earned runs and 6 hits over 5 innings of work. Mumford was responsible for the Red Hawks only run going 1-4 on the day.

In game two the Mustangs would jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first and would never look back coasting to a 9-0 win. Eric Schreter would be the losing pitcher for the Red Hawks as he pitched for 3 and a third of an inning allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and striking out 3. Red Hawk hits came from Meyer and Kiyota who each finished the game 1-3.

The Red Hawks will look to bounce back tomorrow when they will face the same Mustangs in a double header starting at 11am.
