Baseball Rally in Series Finale Comes up Short, Master's Completes Sweep

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Opening the season against the No. 10 team in the country on the road, the Simpson baseball team tried to salvage the final game of the four-game series Saturday, but came up a run short. The Red Hawks scored once in the top half of the last inning, but could not push across a tying run and fell, 4-3. The Mustangs won the first game of the day, 9-1.

Game One
Matthew Kiyota's solo home run was the offensive highlight for the Red Hawks, who tallied six hits as a team. Humberto Solorio allowed six runs in 5.0 innings to take the loss on the hill.

Game Two
Kyle Ferguson's RBI single cut the lead to 4-3 in the seventh, but he was stranded to end the game for the Red Hawks. Garrett Yoder led the Red Hawk offense going 3-3 on the game, and George Cecchetti also drove in a run for SU. Cody Coggins pitch 5.0 innings and gave up just four hits, but took the loss on the mound.
