REDDING, Calif. - The softball team has qualified for postseason play for the fifteenth consecutive season in a row under Head Coach
Wayne Stower.
The girls are entering the Cal Pac tournament as the #3 seed as they completed the series sweep this past weekend to overtake Park-Gilbert in the standings.
The conference tournament begins on Wednesday and runs through Friday and is hosted this year by Embry-Riddle.
The tournament consists of five teams in a double-elimination format; Embry-Riddle (1), Westcliff (2), Simpson (3), Park (4), and Benedictine (5).
Simpson plays #2 Westcliff in the second game on Wednesday at Eagle Softball Field on the campus of Embry-Riddle.
The girls have been hot and surged at the end of the season as they are riding a five-game win streak into the tournament.
This will be the fifth time these two teams will meet this season as Simpson and Westcliff split the series back in early April.
The Simpson bats have been on fire as they post five girls with batting averages over .300 in conference play. This includes
Madyson Welch,
Nicolena Holen,
Amy LeGrande,
Cailey Rizzardo, and
Adriana Delaney.
Second baseman
Marissa Ramirez is coming off a Cal Pac Player of the Week honor as she hit .700 this past weekend by going 7-10 at the plate.
On the bump, the Simpson staff has been nails of late by allowing just one run over the last five games.
Simpson has garnished the Cal Pac Pitcher of the Week honor in back-to-back weeks. First by
Jacquelyn Lujan last week and
Kylee Potes this week.
Both pitchers combined have allowed just one run in their last four games.
If Simpson wins they will play on Thursday at 10 AM against the winner of Embry-Riddle and Park/Ben U.
But if they lose, they will turn around and play the last game of the day on Wednesday at 5:30 PM in an elimination game against the loser of the Park and Ben U game.
