Simpson drops the series against No. 6 Southern Oregon

ASHLAND, Ore. - The Red Hawks softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader today against No. 6 Southern Oregon, 4-0 and 6-0.

A pitcher's duel between Simpson's Jacquelyn Lujan and Southern Oregon's Ayla Davies held each other's offenses in check as they tossed four scoreless innings.

The Raiders broke through in the fifth inning as they plated four runs on a two-run triple by Vanessa Lang and RBI base knocks by Ari Williams and Lexi Ramirez.

Davies, the 2025 NAIA National Pitcher of the Year, silenced the Simpson bats as she allowed two hits and four total base runners, picking up the win as she tossed the complete game shutout victory.

Lujan suffered the loss as she fired six innings of four-run ball, as she tossed five shutout innings before surrendering her only runs of the game in the fifth.

On offense, the Red Hawks scratched two hits, singles by Nayzeth Gonzalez and Madison Chapman

For the Raiders, Kalea Thomas led the team's nine hit performances with a perfect three-for-three game.

Game 2:

Back-to-back scoreless innings to begin the second game set up a big third inning for the Raiders as they plated six runs off five hits.

The Raiders put together a two-out rally as Brooke Nordahl singled home the game's first run. Followed by an RBI single by Lexi Ramirez and back-to-back two-run singles by Gabby Heiken and Michelle Hara.

The Raiders, Tatiana Blas quieted the Simpson offense as she allowed two hits and struck out five batters, earning the complete game shutout victory.

Simpson's Lily Rojas suffered the loss as she tossed three innings while surrendering six runs before handing the ball to Grace Chojnacki, who allowed one hit in three innings of work.

The two hits for Simpson came off the bat of Nicolena Holen and a pinch-hit single by Lujan. For the Raiders, Heiken led the offense with a two-for-three game and two RBI's.

With the loss, Simpson holds the sixth spot in the Cascade Conference Standings as they enter its final week of league play. They begin a four-game series with the College of Idaho on Friday at 2 pm in Caldwell, ID. The Red Hawks hold a one-game lead over Warner Pacific for the sixth and final playoff spot as they hold the season tiebreaker. The Red Hawks' magic number is two wins or a win and a loss by Warner Pacific.
