RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Coming into the day the boys looked to take the series against La Sierra University to open the ten-day road trip.
The Red Hawks looked to take the conference series in game three behind starter
Jaydon Tomas.
Simpson started early as they took the 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo shot by
Logan Gomes. This marked Gomes's second homer in as many days as he pushes his season total to nine long balls.
But the Golden Eagles answered back in the second inning as they grabbed the 2-1 lead on a two-out two-run double down the left field line.
La Sierra chased starter Tomas in the fifth inning as they plated one run on a double in the right-center gap to take the 3-1 lead.
With the infield drawn in, Shortstop
Micah Kele made a smooth play as he cut down the La Sierra runner at the plate to keep it a 3-1 ball game.
Back-to-back one-out singles by Kele and
Titus Sato put the tying run aboard for first baseman
Chase Rossman.
Rossman came through as he doubled to score Kele and Sato to tie the game 3-3.
Simpson reclaimed the lead in the top of the seventh inning as a clutch two-out single by
Andreyes Palacios scored Sato from second base.
Catcher Jaxxon Hotta added a huge insurance run as he doubled in the right center alley to score Palacios from first base to give SU the 5-3 lead.
The Golden Eagles threatened in the bottom of the eighth inning as they loaded the bases against Simpson closer
Nathan Palacioz.
Palacioz put out the flames and sat down the Golden Eagles pinch hitter on three pitches to end the threat.
Coming back out for the ninth inning, Palacioz completed the four-out save to seal the 5-3 win and conference series victory.
Titus Sato led the Red Hawk bats with a team-high three hits in four trips to the plate.
Hotta and Rossman picked up clutch doubles and combined for three RBI's on the game.

A lead-off double by
Brayden Swenson to begin the game came around to score on a La Sierra wild pitch.
Simpson padded its lead with two more runs in the following inning.

Maximiliano Lopez added the second run of the inning on a sacrifice fly that scored Alcala to make it a 3-0 ball game.
The Golden Eagles plated its first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 3-1 game. But later took the lead in the following inning as they plated four runs on three hits to grab the 5-3 lead.
Simpson chipped away in the fifth inning as they plated one run after a pinch-hit double by
Alex Woo came around to score on an RBI single by
Andreyes Palacios.
But the Red Hawk bats could not overcome the deficit and went quiet over the next two innings.
Simpson settled for the series split but won the conference series 2-1 with its victory in game one of the day.
With the win, Simpson is now in sole possession of second place in the Cal Pac standings.
The Red Hawks look to stay hot as they take on Saint Katherine on Tuesday in a single game to complete its series that has been postponed since early March.
