Simpson Splits With #9 Jessup in a High Scoring Day

REDDING, Calif. - The baseball team hosted the #9 team in the country William Jessup for a nonconference doubleheader today.

Southpaw Brady Glenn got the nod on the mound for the Red Hawks in game one of this two-game set for his first start of the year.

Simpson drew first blood on a solo blast by Logan Gomes in the first inning to give SU the early lead.

A leadoff single by Brady Meeds got Simpson going in the second inning. Meeds went on to steal second base to get into scoring position then later scored on a Warrior error to make it a 2-0 ball game.

The Warriors scratched across its first run of the game in the top of the third inning on a solo shot to cut the Simpson lead in half.

The Red Hawks plated two more runs in the fifth inning on three hits.

Back-to-back singles to open the fifth inning by Brayden Swenson and Dylan Leek put traffic on the bases. A clutch two-out RBI single by Dominic Folks made it a 3-1 game before a bases-loaded walk to Chase Rossman pushed home the fourth run of the game.

The Warriors answered back by plating two runs in the top of the sixth inning on four hits to make it a 4-3 game.

Simpson scratched one run in the bottom half of the inning on a Jessup miscue to make it a 5-3 game before Simpson put up another crooked number in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Back-to-back singles by Chase Rossman and Titus Sato followed by a two-run single by Swenson padded Simpson's 7-4 lead followed by an RBI single by Logan Gomes to make it an 8-4 ball game.

Sato came through in the eighth inning with an RBI single to score Meeds to pad its 9-4 lead.

But the Warriors did not go quietly as the first four batters of the inning reached base to make it a one-run game with no outs.

Freshman Brendan Moore put out the flames and picked up his first save of the year as he came in relief and retired the next three Jessup batters.

Game 2:

The second game proved to be a high-scoring shootout that saw both teams combined for 43 total runs and 30 hits.

The Red Hawks bats put up a season-high 17 runs on 13 hits.

Simpson hammered five long balls by Alex Tolbert, Andreyes Palacios, and Brady Meeds

Tolbert and Palacios each recorded a multi-homer game and combined for nine RBIs.

Brett Johnson and Hayden Hill each recorded a two-hit performance as well.

However, the Warriors exploded in game two for 26 runs on 17 hits to outscore Simpson and earn the split on the day.

Simpson looks to hit the road and resume conference play this week Thursday against La Sierra University.
