REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks have been back out on the softball diamond preparing for their first few series of the year.
For the softball team, the 2022 season was a bit of a rollercoaster. After finishing conference play with a record of 18-14, they secured themselves a slot in the conference tournament. The playoff run came to an unfortunate end after falling to Marymount, but these ladies are back this year more ready than ever.
The Red Hawks have historically been a top team in the conference, previously winning 9 conference championships, many Opening-Round games, and even an NCCAA title in 2015.
Looking to continue the dominant legacy, this year's team is looking exceptionally strong with the return of 2022 All-Conference outfielder Amy LeGrande, and Honorable mentions Ashley Miller and Brooke Blades, and All-Defensive Team player Aubrey Zamora. These ladies along with some key transfer additions, and the newest signing class, are sure to compete for the conference title this season.
Junior Amy LeGrande is optimistic about this new season saying "I think we will be very successful this season, especially with our new additions because they offer our squad so much more depth and versatility that previous years lacked."
The first matchup of the season was against the Vanguard University Lions. The history between the teams was a 3-3 record, which created some exciting suspense for this road game matchup for the Red Hawks. With one win and one loss, the weekend ended in a series split making the record 4-4.
Hyped for their home opener, the Red Hawks will take on a solid side as they face off against Bushnell University at 12:00PM on Tuesday February 7, 2023.
With conference competition only a couple of weeks away, the team looks forward to debuting the new team for a competitive season, and another chance at a conference title.
