TEXAS - This past weekend, Simpson softball won five out of six games in the Southern Collegiate NAIA Invitational including a shutout and a victory against a third-ranked team.

The Red Hawks started out hot in Texas winning four straight games.

Simpson's weekend started out with a 7-3 win over Columbia College. Kylie Potes pitched all seven innings and allowed three runs in the last two innings. Potes excelled giving up two earned runs and striking out nine batters. The Red Hawks had their big inning in the third, opening the game up with four runs. Kassandra Soria hit a double scoring Legrande and Munoz. Soria had herself a day hitting a two-run homer in the 5th inning putting SU up 6-0. Soria finished the game 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs.

Simpson's second win came in a 5-0 shutout against Oklahoma Panhandle State University. This time Sydney Moorehead threw a complete game with seven strikeouts allowing six hits and no runs. Soria's bat stayed on fire in game two going 3-for-4. Isabella Munoz hit the first runner in with a line drive double into left field in the 3rd inning. Amy Legrande followed up with an RBI single. In the 6th inning, Marissa Ramirez doubled on a bunt to the third base side to score a run. Nicolena Holen batted Simpson's final two runs on a line drive to center.

For a third straight game, Simpson showed off their arm talent as Jessica Ulshoeffer pitched the full seven innings. Ulshoeffer gave up one earned run with five strikeouts and six hits. The Red Hawks' offense was highlighted by a Cailey Rizzardo triple scoring two runs. Simpson beat Southwestern Assemblies of God University 3-1.

One of their biggest accomplishments of the weekend was beating the third-ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma 6-4.

The only loss of the weekend came to Baker University in a pitcher's duel that went into the 8th inning where Baker University hit a walk-off double to end the game 2-1. Potes started the game and Moorehead came in for relief. Both pitchers struck out five batters.

In the sixth and final game of the weekend, Simpson beat Bellevue University 10-7 in a thrilling 10-inning contest. The Red Hawks took a four-run lead in the 3rd inning when Soria blasted a three-run shot as she continued her success in the batter's box. Following the home run, Holder and Jayden Bayani both batted in a run. Bellevue fought back tying the game 7-7 in the bottom of the 7th inning. A couple of walks and wild pitches put Simpson back in the lead scoring three runs in the top of the 8th. Ulshoeffer closed the game out to finish the Red Hawks' five-win weekend.

The Red Hawks are buzzing after their great weekend in Texas and will play their next game at home this Friday, Feb. 17, in a doubleheader against Southern Oregon University starting at 12 p.m.
