Box Score 4 RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Simpson Softball traveled to Riverside, CA this week to compete in the Cal Pac Conference Tournament.
Day one, #4 Simpson took on #5 La Sierra.
The Red Hawks got things going when
Aubrey Zamora went yard with a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning. SU added two more in the bottom of the second when
Meridian Enriquez hit an RBI double and an RBI single by
Cailey Rizzardo.
La Sierra would go on to put nine runs between the third and fourth innings, taking the lead, 9-3.
However, the Red Hawks exploded in the bottom of the fifth with an eight run inning, six of them coming with two outs.
Aubrey Zamora got the scoring run going with a an RBI double, and later scoring herself on an error by the center fielder.
Chloe Garcia hit a two RBI homer, later followed by
Meridian Enriquez's second RBI double of the game.
Cailey Rizzardo then brought in Enriquez with her second RBI single.
Jodi Garner hit an RBI single, then later scored on an error.
SU added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth with two more runs, taking the win, 13-9.
In the second game of day one, Simpson faced #1 ranked Embry-Riddle.
It was a battle of the defenses as the only run came from Embry-Riddle in the bottom of the first inning.
SU was unable to get the bats going, only getting two hits and ultimately falling, 1-0.
Day two, Simpson took on #3 ranked Westcliff in the first elimination game of the day.
Much like the first game of day one, SU started it off by putting up the first three runs. In the top of the first,
Aubrey Zamora scored off an error and Amy Legrande stole home. In the top of the second,
Cailey Rizzardo scored off a sacrifice fly by
Jodi Garner.
The Red Hawks only allowed the Warriors one run and
Kylee Potes recorded five strikeouts in the 3-1 win.
Game two, Simpson battled with #2 ranked Marymount.
The Red Hawks scored the first run of the game off a sacrifice fly by
Chloe Garcia in the top of the first. The Mariners answered in the bottom of the inning, putting up two runs of their own. The Red Hawks tied it up in the top of the second off an RBI single by AMy Legrande.
However, it wouldn't be enough as Marymount continued to put up runs. SU ultimately fell, 5-2.
For the season, the Red Hawks had a final record of 33-28 and a conference record of 18-14.
