Box Score 4 Lancaster, Calif. - With the conclusion of the regular season this past weekend against Antelope Valley, Simpson Softball is looking ahead to the Cal Pac Tournament.
The Red Hawks faced off against the Pioneers in Lancaster on Saturday and Sunday, dropping all four games of the series.
Saturday in game one, UAV put up the first run in the third inning, but Simpson answered in the sixth off a solo homerun by
Aubrey Zamora and an RBI single by
Madison Greco, giving SU a 2-1 lead. But it wouldn't be enough as the Pioneers put two more in the bottom of the seventh, resulting in a 3-2 loss for the Red Hawks.
Game two, Simpson's lone run came in the second inning off a sacrifice fly by
McKenzie Martinez that scored
Chloe Garcia. The Red Hawks fell with a final of 4-1.
On Sunday, SU struggled against Antelope Valley's offense in game one, allowing seven runs. The Red Hawks would go on to only score one run, which came in the top of the seventh off a RBI single by
Jodi Garner.
Sunday's game two was Simpson's best of the weekend for scoring. The Red Hawks put up the first run of the game when
Aubrey Zamora stole home. SU and UAV would go back and forth, until the Pioneers scored three in the bottom of the sixth. Simpson couldn't answer back, falling 8-6.
SU will shake of this weekend and focus on the Cal Pac Tournament beginning on Wednesday.
Simpson and La Sierra will face off as the #4 and #5 seeds, respectively.
In the lone meeting this season, the Red Hawks and Golden Eagles split the series, with SU winning the first game, 6-2, and the fourth game, 4-0.
