REDDING, Calif. - A rocky start defensively for the Red Hawks did not hold them back from extending their winning streak to 13 games and being crowned the Cal Pac Conference Tournament Champions.
With heavy winds being a factor, a botched pop up in the top of the 1st inning, allowed La Sierra to strike first with a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the 1st inning, Simpson plated 4 runs while only recording one hit. A walk, a hit batsmen, and two errors occurred before
Jessica Dager capitalized with a 2 RBI single to extend the lead to 4-1.
Courtney Dunn appeared to be on top of her game, until the Golden Eagles tallied four consecutive hits with two outs in the 3rd inning to score twice and cut the lead to 4-3. Simpson ace,
Paris Hallums, came in to clean up the mess and struck out Sierra Singer with the bases loaded to end the visitor's half of the 3rd.
Kayla Bailey drew a 7 pitch walk to leadoff the home half of the 5th and
Wayne Stower quickly elected to courtesy run
Emily Fuller. Fuller swiped a key bag before eventually coming around to score on a sacrifice fly from
Bailey Akins.
Madison Wright and
Amanda Laughlin each singled to begin the 6th for Simpson before
Kayla Bailey lined a screamer off the wall in center field that plated Wright and extended the Red Hawk lead to 7-3.
Hallums proved herself once again, with four and a third innings of work, only allowing four hits and fanning five La Sierra batters and finishing off a 7-3 victory for Simpson
The Red Hawks have now won the Cal Pac Conference Championship 6 out of the last 7 years and will await an automatic bid to the Opening Round of the NAIA National Tournament.
