Hallums Tosses One-Hitter, Red Hawk Offense Explodes for 10 Runs; Simpson Advances

REDDING, Calif. - Paris Hallums held Eastern Oregon to one base hit, and No. 7 Simpson rolled past the Mountaineers, 10-0 in five innnings, in the inaugural game of the 2016 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round, Simpson Bracket. Courtney Thomas and Kristin Beckman each drove in three runs for the Red Hawks, who won for the 14th straight game.

Jessica Dager's RBI double off the fence in right field gave Simpson the lead in the top of the second inning and the Red Hawks came alive at the plate in the next two innings. Thomas blasted a three-run homer in the third to push the margin to 4-0. A six-run fourth inning sealed the victory for the top seeded hosts. Kaylana Mah plated a run with an RBI single, and Madison Wright tripled home two more runs to make it 7-0. Later in the inning, Beckman's bases loaded double gave SU its 10-0 lead. Missy Silveira was 3-3 with a pair of runs scored for the Red Hawk offense.

Hallums took over from there dominating the EOU lineup. Jorden Gerlach's one-out single in the third was the only blemish for Hallums, who improved to 19-1 on the season while striking out eight and walking a pair.

Hailey Kline took the loss for Eastern. She lasted 3.2 innings and gave up eight runs, all earned.

Simpson advances to Tuesday's winners bracket game at 10:30 a.m. against the victor of Dickinson State and Oregon Tech. Eastern Oregon will face the loser of that contest in an elimination game on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
