SU Baseball splits home series with OIT

REDDING, Calif.- The Red Hawks were back home on Wednesday when they hosted the Owls from Oregon Tech in a double header. The Red Hawks took game one 7-1 before dropping the second game 10-5.

Cody Coggins took the mound in game one and retired the side in the top of the first without a hit. The Red Hawks offense would put of five runs highlighted by an Aaron Curfman three run homerun which scored Dylan Mumford and Blaine Hokama.

Coggins would continue to be sharp with the team's trading zeros until the Owls finally got to Coggins for a run in the fifth inning. Reigning Cal Pac Player of the week Blaine Hokama answered back in the bottom half of the frame with a solo shot to deep left center field to make it 6-1.

The Red Hawks would add another run when Matthew Kiyota would score on a bases loaded walk to add to the Red Hawk lead.

The Red Hawk bullpen would also look sharp as Robert Bristol and Ryan Holmes would combine for 3.1 innings allowing just one hit to slam the door and seal the 7-1 win.

Coggins earns the win going 5.2 innings allowing just the one run on three hits.

Curfman finished the game 2-4 with 3 RBI's and a run scored. Kiyota also added 2 hits scoring twice.

In game two the Red Hawks again started strong this time scoring three times in the first inning fist from a bases loaded walk by Mumford scoring Iwamasa then Kyle Ferguson and Casey Meyer scored on a Blaine Hokama single.

The Owls would chip away at the lead scoring twice in the third inning before taking the lead in the fourth inning when they came back with three runs to make it 5-3 after four innings. They added four more runs in the fifth inning to really open it up at 9-3.

The Red Hawks would stop the bleeding on the 6th inning when Hokama was at it again this time doubling to left to score Mumford before Rath Mosley singled to score Hokama to make it 9-5. The Owls added another run in the top of the 9th to complete the game with a 10-5 win.

Eric Schreter was the loser for the Red Hawks allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits in 4 innings of work.

Hokama finished the stellar day going 2-3 with 3 RBI.

The Red Hawks will now head north to Canada to take on the Thunderbirds from the University of British Columbia in a four game series to start on Saturday, April 2nd at 12pm.
