Baseball falls to Yotes in twinbill

REDDING, Calif.- The Red Hawks were in action on Friday vs. the Yotes from the College of Idaho in a double header which saw the Yotes winning both games, 8-0 and 8-7.

In game one the Red Hawks were up against the wall early as the Yotes scored in the first four innings. Zach Draper was on the mound for the Yotes and he shut the Red Hawk offense down allowing just 5 hits in his 7 shutout innings.

James Humphrey was the losing pitcher for the Red Hawks allowing 4 earned runs on 8 hits in 5 innings.

Dylan Mumford was responsible for 2 of the Red Hawks 5 hits going 2-4 from the plate.

In game two it was Simpson going up early scoring once when Dylan Mumford doubled to score Ryan Ford.

The Yotes answered back with two in the second and four in the fourth inning to make it 3-1 Yotes.

The Red Hawks would come back to take the lead with one run in the fourth, on error to score Garrett Yoder, and three in the fifth, on a Yoder single to score Ford and a Ryan King single to score Mumford and Yoder, making it 5-3 Red Hawks.

The Yotes would then score once in the sixth inning and four times in the seventh inning to take back the lead 8-5.

The Red Hawks answered those runs with two of their own on a Yoder single which scored Mumford and Hokama to put the Red Hawks down just one. The comeback bid would fall short when the inning ended in controversial fashion as Yoder was thrown out at the plate in a close call which would have tied up the game.

The loss goes to Humberto Solorio who allows 5 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings. Mumford added 3 more hits and scored twice in the game with Yoder also getting 3 hits going 3-5 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.

The Red Hawks will finish the series with a double headed on Saturday, March 26th starting at 11am.
