REDDING, Calif.- The Red Hawks finished off their busy weekend with a double header versus. the Yotes from the College of Idaho. who are currently ranked No.26 in the latest NAIA baseball rankings. After dropping the first game 13-3 the Red Hawks rebounded to earn the win in game two 9-7.
The Yotes were all over Red Hawk starter
Garrett Yoder in game one striking for three runs in each of the first two innings and two more in the third inning making it 8-0 after the third.
The Red Hawks would get one back in the forth inning when
Casey Meyer scored on a passed ball. The Yotes answered back with two more runs in the fifth inning to make it 10-1.
The Red Hawks would match the two runs with two of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning when
Derick Kuhn scored on a bases loaded walk by
Kenneth Sellers and then
Blaine Hokama also walked with the bases loaded scoring
Casey Meyer.
The Yotes would finish off the scoring in the seventh inning with three runs to make it 13-3.
Yoder would get the loss allowing 11 runs on 17 hits in 7 innings of work. The three Red Hawks would come from
Aaron Curfman, Hokama and Kuhn.
The Red Hawks would find themselves trailing in the second game as well when the Yotes scored once in the top of the first inning. The Red Hawks responded with two of their own to take the lead in the bottom half of the frame when Meyer's stand up triple scored
Coryn Iwamasa and then Hokama's double would score Meyer.
The Red Hawks didn't wait long to add to their lead adding four runs in the second inning when Iwamasa scored Sellers on a single, Iwamasa and
Jarrett Kirby would both score on an error and Hokama would single up the middle to score Meyer to give the Red Hawks a 6-1 lead after two.
In the third inning both teams would each add one run to their totals with the Red Hawks run coming from
George Cecchetti would score on a passed ball.
The Yotes would then have a big fifth inning scoring four times to bring them back within one with the score 7-6 Red Hawks after the top of the fifth inning.
Matthew Kiyota would homer to lead off the bottom of the frame to give the Red Hawks a two run lead.
Again both teams exchanged one run in the top and bottom of the seventh inning this time it was Hokama who homered to make it 9-7 Red Hawks.
Zane Medeiros would close out the game is style on the mound for the Red Hawks slamming the door shut to preserve the win for his team.
Zane Medeiros earns the win in his 4.2 innings of relief allowing just one unearned run on 4 hits.
The Red Hawks would look to continue to add to the win column when they will be hosting the Owls from Oregon Tech on Wednesday the 30th at 1pm out at Tiger Field.
