Pair of Comeback Victories Moves SU to 4-0, Sweeps DH Past EOU

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson twice rallied from deficits Saturday to defeat Eastern Oregon in a softball doubleheader at Simpson Softball Field. The Red Hawks trailed 1-0 in game one and answered with five runs to win, 5-1, and in game two came back from four runs down in the first inning to win in walk off fashion in the seventh, 5-4.

Game 1
Amy Rodriguez allowed five hits and a run over 6.0 innings inside the circle to earn the victory. She was efficient throwing just 72 pitches and walking only one while also recording a strikeout. After Eastern took the lead 1-0 in the second, Simpson gave its pitcher all the support she would need with three runs in the bottom of the third. Taylor Hill drove in two runs for the game, and Kaylana Mah, Kara Wall, and Miss Silveira each drove in runs for the Red Hawks. Mah, Silveira, and Courtney Thomas all collected a pair of base hits. Mah's hit was an inside-the-park home run.

Game 2
Mah capped off a huge comeback for the Red Hawks with a walk off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. Simpson trailed 4-0 before recording an out in the top of the first. Starter Heidi Sundquist walked the first two batters she faced and then gave up back-to-back home runs by Cheyenne Barker and Marisa Gonzalez as the Mountaineers raced to a 4-0 lead.

Kacey Pokorny didn't factor in the pitching decision, but steadied the waters for the Red Hawks in relief of Sundquist. She worked 5.0 scoreless innings before turning the ball over the Paris Hallums, who earned the victory recording the final six outs for SU. She mowed down all six batters she faced via the strikeout.

Simpson's comeback started in the bottom of the first. Wall doubled home two runs to cut the EOU lead in half. The Red Hawks tied it in the second. Mah doubled home a run and scored the tying run setting up the dramatics in the seventh.

The two teams will finish the four-game series Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m.
