Red Hawks struggle in second and fall to Benedictine

MESA, Calif. - Red Hawks would lead as much as 12 points in the first half, but a poor shooting performance in the second gives Benedictine the victory 89-74.

Simpson dominate the first half holding Benedictine to 14 percent from the three point line. SU would shoot a season high 54 percent from the field and headed into intermission with a 48-39 lead. Jacob Kaler led all scorers in the first half with 12 points and two assist.

In the second half, Benedictine would take full control as they would shoot 50 percoent from the three point line and 54 percent from the field. Benedictine would hold Kaler to only seven points and no assist. Simpson struggled against the Benedictine pressure as they recorded 11 turnovers in the half and shot 32 percent from the field. BU outscored Simpson 50-26.

Kaler led the Red Hawks with 19 points. Marc Kirkland and Joseph Bosetti each scored 15 points. Rufus Humphrey scored 11 points off the bench.

The Red Hawks return back to Cal Pac conference play on Thursday, Feb.11 against UC Merced. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm in the Heritage Student Life Center.
