Red Hawks Complete Home Series vs. UBC

Redding, Calif.- The Red Hawks were back at it on Sunday at home for the 10th and 11th time since last Friday looking to get into the win column for the first time against the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. Unfortunately, for the Red Hawks they would fall short in both games in the double header, losing game one 8-2 and game two 6-1.

Humberto Solorio took to the mound for the Red Hawks in game one of the double header and he would be plagued by a nightmare of an inning in the 2nd when the Thunderbirds would score 5 times. The Red Hawks would respond in the 5th inning when Rath Mosley hit a 2-run homer off of the leftfield foul pole but that would be all the offense the Red Hawks would generate allowing the Thunderbirds to coast to the 8-2 victory.

Mosley added another hit to his homer in the game going 2-4 with 2 RBI in the game and Aaron Curfman continued to stay hot at the plate adding two more hits. Solorio gets hit with the loss allowing 6 runs on 7 hits in 6 and two thirds of an inning.

In game two Cody Coggins was on the bump for the Red Hawks. Geoff Ehresman would give the Thunderbirds the lead in the top of the 1st inning but Coggins would settle down after that putting up zero after zero from the 2nd inning through the 6th inning. The knockout blow would come in the top of the 7th for the Thunderbirds as Coggins would get in a bit of trouble and the Red Hawk bullpen was unable to help the cause and would allow 4 runs in the inning. The sole Red Hawk run would come in the 8th inning on a Casey Meyer ground out which would score George Cecchetti who was running for catcher Chase Root.

The Thunderbirds would tack on one more in the 9th to secure the 6-1 win. Coggings gets the loss allowing just 2 runs on 7 hits in 6.1 innings. The Red Hawk offense struggled in game two only coming up with 3 hits with Dylan Mumford, Chase Root and Kyle Ferguson all coming up with one hit each.

The Red Hawks will head on the road for a double header against the Oaks from Menlo College on Wednesday, March 1st before returning home next weekend.
