Game Recap: Baseball |

Simpson drops two to Oaks

ATHERTON, Cailf.- The Red Hawks hit the road for a short road trip to the Bay Area to face the Oaks from Menlo College in a double header on Tuesday. The Oaks would hand the Red Hawks two more losses on the season taking game one 12-8 and game two 7-1.

Eric Schreter was on the mound for the Red Hawks in game one against Mack Boone for the Oaks. The Oaks would draw first blood scoring once in the 2nd inning and twice in the 3rd inning to make it 3-0.

Blaine Hokama cut into Oak lead when his RBI double scored Kenny Sellers before Derick Kuhn's two run single down the right field line scored Hokama and Matthew Kiyota knotting the game up at 3-3.

The Oaks would continue to be productive on the offensive end scoring again in each of the remaining innings including one in the 4th inning, two in the 5th inning, one in each of the 6th and 7th inning and four in the 8th inning.

The Red Hawks would put up a couple of crooked numbers in the 8th and 9th inning scoring three times in the 8th inning when Hokama was at it again with another RBI double, Kuhn with another RBI hit this time a double down the left field line and then Kuhn would score on a Casey Meyer single.

In the 9th inning Hokama continued to be hot this time coming up with a RBI triple down the right field line and Kyle Ferguson would come up with a RBI double down the line scoring Hokama but the eight runs the Red Hawks would come up with would be short of the twelve the Oaks would score and that would be the final score.

Schreter is the loser allowing 6 runs on 5 hits in 4.1 innings of work. Hokama finished the day 3-5 from the plate with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Kuhn added 2 hits with 3 RBI's of his own with Matthew Kiyota and Kyle Ferguson both adding 2 hits each.

In game two the Red Hawks would send Garrett Yoder to the mound to take on the Oaks starter Cruz Daddario. Again it was the Oaks taking the lead first this time in the 1st inning when the lead off batter would hit a homer to give the Oaks a 1-0 lead.

Yoder would settle down and pitch well from then on allowing just one more hit through the 5th inning. Daddario also had a great day on the mound keeping the Red Hawk offense quiet.

The Red Hawks would finally get the break through in the 5th inning tying the score at 1-1 when Jarrett Kirby scored on a Kenny Sellers ground out to second.

The wheels would come off the wagon for the Red Hawks in the bottom of the 6th inning when the Oaks offense had a break through inning scoring six times on five hits in the inning and Daddario would slam the door such finishing off the complete seven inning game for the Oaks.

Yoder gets the loss allowing 7 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings of work. On offense it was Jarrett Kirby doing the damage for the Red Hawks as he was responsible for two of the Red Hawks three hits in the game.

The Red Hawks will return home on Saturday, March 5th, for a double header against the Oregon Tech Owls still searching for their first win on the season. The double header is slated to start at 12pm.
