Simpson Sweeps Doubleheader from No. 3 Oregon Tech

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson softball team continued its stellar start to the beginning of the season with a pair of wins over No. 3 Oregon Tech on Friday, 4-1 and 8-7 in 10 innings.

Game One - SU 4, OIT 1
Paris Hallums threw a complete-game allowing just one run on four hits with three strikeouts. Offensively the Red Hawks scored first in the third inning when Kaylana Mah's bunt for a single palted Missy Silveira, who doubled to lead off the inning.

In the fourth inning Kristin Beckman belted a two-run home run after Madison Wright led off the inning with a walk to extend the Red Hawk lead to 3-0.

After the Owls got one back in the top of the fifth, the Red Hawks finished off the scoring in the bottom of the sixth on a Missy Silveira sacrifice fly.

Hallums earned her seventh the win of the season, and Beckman leading the way at the plate going 2-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Game Two - SU 8, OIT 7 (10 inn.)
Taylor Hill's walk-off RBI single won it for the Red Hawks in the bottom of the 10th inning. Caryle Avey went all 10 innings in the circle to record her seventh win of the season.

The Red Hawks jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first when Wright scored on a Mah ground out. The Owls answered with one for their own in the top of the second, but the Red Hawks came right back to reclaim the lead in the bottom half of the frame when Darby Sanchez scored on a wild pitch.

OIT touched up Avey in the top of the third inning scoring four times on four hits, including a three-run homer by Cassidy Hoglund to give the Owls a 5-2 lead.

The Red Hawks chipped away at the Owl lead as Beckman's solo shot cut the lead to 5-3 in the fourth. Courtney Thomas' pinch-hit two-run blast in the sixth tied the game and sent it to extra innings.

Using the international tie-breaker, each team scored single runs in both the eighth and ninth innings setting up Hill's heroics in the bottom of the 10th. Beckman went 3-4 to cap of a great day, and Wright added two hits and an RBI in the winning effort.

Next up for the Red Hawks is a doubleheader at home against Northwest Christian University on Sunday, Feb 28 beginning at 11 a.m.
