Bethesda Slips by SU Twice in One-run Games

REDDING, Calif. - Bethesda twice rallied Wednesday to post one-run wins over Simpson in doubleheader baseball action at Tiger Field. The Flames came back to win game one, 7-6, and rallied for a 3-2 win in the nightcap. The losses are the third-straight one-run setbacks for the Red Hawks and the fourth this season.

Game One - Bethesda 7, Simpson 6
Simpson stormed to a 5-1 lead with single runs in the third and fourth and then a three-run fifth. The Flames, however, answered with a pair of runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh to lead 7-5. SU rallied for a run in the ninth, but stranded the tying run on base.

Eric Schreter gave 5.0 solid innings as a starter allowing three runs, one earned while giving up five hits. Ryan Holmes was charged the loss in relief going 1.1 innings. Offensively, Derick Kuhn and Matthew Kiyota each drove in two runs. Casey Meyer and George Cecchetti recorded a double and triple, respectively.

Game Two - Bethesda 3, Simpson 2
Led by Meyer's solo home run and a double, Simpson built a 2-0 lead, but could not close out the victory. Garrett Yoder took the loss on the mound going 5.1 innings in his start charged with all three runs, two of them earned. James Humphrey inherited a pair of runners and a 2-1 in the sixth, but could not keep the Flames from plating the runners already aboard.

SU got the tying run on base in the final inning, but Daniel Arellano earned the save for Bethesda with three straight strikeouts to end the game.

The two teams will complete the series Thursday with a single game beginning at noon.
