Oregon Tech Too Much in Road Loss for Men's Hoops

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Danny Miles Court is one of the toughest places to play in the NAIA, and Tuesday night the Simpson men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Oregon Tech team falling 87-61 in non-conference action on the road. The Owls shot 52 percent from the field and 46 percent from behind the arc to pull away from the Red Hawks after a close start to the contest.

Simpson three times led by as many as three points in the early going, but could not sustain the momentum the Owls gained in a 33-10 run to build a 22-point lead late into the first half after SU led 12-11 with 13 minutes remaining in the half. OIT carried a 44-24 lead into the locker room, and the game was never in question over the final 20 minutes.

Lavar Moore notched game highs with 31 points and eight rebounds for the hosts.

For Simpson, four players reached double figures, led by Jacob Kaler's 13 points. Marc Kirkland scored a dozen, and Otar Pkhakadze and Josh Brakkee each added 11. Brakkee led the Red Hawks with six caroms. Simpson was playing its fourth game in five days.

SU remains on the road and again travels to Oregon for a weekend pair of games at the Corban Classic in Salem. The Red Hawks will face Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
