NW Christian Holds Off Simpson in Men's Basketball Action

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson men's basketball team returned home Monday night for the first time in over three weeks, but the Red Hawks could not get past No. 12 Northwest Christian as the Beacons left the Heritage Center with a 78-72 victory.

Jacob Kaler and Josh Brakkee again led the offensive attack for the Red Hawks. Kaler finished with game-highs of 26 points and four assists. Brakkee completed his second straight double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and nearly missed a triple-double with seven steals on the night.

After Simpson took a brief 35-34 lead with just over 16 minutes to play, the Beacons answered with a 9-0 run to push its lead to eight points, and the Red Hawks played from behind the rest of the way. SU cut the lead to a single point at 6:57 on a Joseph Bosetti basket, but again, NCU answered with a quick 5-0 spurt to keep the hosts at arm's length. An Otar Pkhakadze three-pointer with :42 remaining made it a one-possession game, but three straight free throws by the Beacons closed out the game.

Simpson hits the road right away Tuesday heading to Klamath Falls, Ore. to play at Oregon Tech. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. following the women's contest between the two schools.
