Comeback Bid for Men's Basketball Comes Up A Point Shy

VALLEJO, Calif. - Otar Pkhakadze's three-point attempt at the buzzer missed, and the Simpson men's basketball team, which trailed by as many as 17 points against The Master's College, failed in its comeback attempt falling 78-77 at the Markie Cosca Memorial Tournament on the campus of Cal Maritime.

The loss negated a huge night for Josh Brakkee, who set career marks with 24 points and 21 rebounds to go along with three blocked shots. Jacob Kaler scored 19 and his three-point basket with :18 remaining tied the game 77-77. A foul sent Keegan Scott to the line for Mustangs where he made one of two free throws to set up the final attempt for the Red Hawks.

Marc Kirkland and Josh Delamarter finished with 16 and 11 points, respectively for SU as well. All five starters for Master's reached double figures in scoring, led by Delewis Johnson with 21.

Simpson returns to its home floor Monday night against Northwest Christian. Tipoff at the Heritage Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
