REDDING, Calif. - The softball team continued to stay hot as they completed the four-game sweep over the Westcliff Warriors to take sole possession of first place in the Cal Pac standings.
The Red Hawks honored its five seniors before the first game; Eleyse Benson,
Samantha Diaz,
Danielle Kelm,
Jillian Walker, and
Kayley Vaillette.
The Warriors struck first in the top of the third inning as they plated two runs as they took advantage of a key Simpson error.
But the Warriors added an insurance in the fourth inning to take the 3-0 lead.
The Red Hawks came roaring back in the bottom of the sixth inning as they plated four runs off three hits.
A one-out hit by pitch to
Brianna Lopez-Cortez sparked the comeback rally as
Hollee Jamison and
Madyson Welch picked up back-to-back singles to load the bases for pinch-hitter
Jordan Adami.
A crucial hit by pitch to Adami drove home the Red Hawk's first run of the game as Simpson pulled within one run on an RBI ground out by
Jessica Heck.
Senior
Elyse Benson had the huge swing as she drove a two-run single down the left field line to score the tying and go-ahead runs to give Simpson the 4-3 lead.
Reliever
Jessica Ulshoeffer quieted the Warrior's bats as she picked up the win after firing 2.0 clean innings as she sat down the Warriors in order.
Lopez-Cortez and Benson led the Simpson bats with two-hit performances as Benson picked up the game-winning swing.
Game 2:
The Red Hawks drew first blood in the second inning as they plated two runs on RBI doubles by
Jessica Heck and
Jordan Adami to give Simpson the early lead.
The Warriors tied the game in the top of the third inning as they plated two runs off two hits. But the Red Hawks reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run blast by Lopez-Cortez.
Simpson extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as
Kassandra Soria picked up an RBI single and Lopez-Cortez picked up her third RBI of the game on a RBI double to left center.
Starter
Lily Rojas, picked up the win as she fired 4.0 innings of two-run ball while Lujan earned the save in relief after firing 1.2 innings to close out the game.
Soria led the Red Hawk's offense in game two as she notched three hits while Lopez-Cortez and Heck followed close behind with two-hit performances.
With the win, Simpson moves 1.0 game ahead of La Sierra for the first-place spot in the Cal Pac standings.
Simpson looks to stay hot as they hit the road to take on Oregon Tech on Tuesday.
