GLENDALE, Ariz. - The softball team continued its road trip this afternoon as they took on GSAC member, Arizona Christian.
The Red Hawks drew first blood in the top of the second inning as a leadoff single by Hollee Jamion came around to score on a sacrifice fly by
Madyson Welch.
A one-out hit by pitch to
Alyssa Blanco came around to score on an RBI double into right-center by reigning Cal Pac Player of the Week
Nicolena Holen.
Starter
Jacquelyn Lujan held the Firestorm offense in check as she allowed zero hits through the first four innings of work to preserve the 2-0 lead.
However, the Firestorm strung back-to-back hits together to begin in the fifth inning as they cut the lead in half before Lujan stranded the tying run at third base.
Simpson picked up a huge insurance run in the top of the sixth inning as Welch delivered a two-out RBI single on a line drive into center field.
Lujan nailed down the complete game victory as she surrendered just five hits and one run.
Welch led the Red Hawks' four-hit performance with two hits including a clutch insurance RBI single.
Game 2:
A leadoff walk to Holen followed by a single by
Kayley Vaillette put two runners aboard in scoring position to open the second game.
A sacrifice fly by
Kassandra Soria followed by a two-out line drive into centerfield by Jamison gave Simpson the early 2-0 lead.
But the Red Hawks broke it open in the third inning as they plated seven runs off four hits.
Back-to-back singles by Vaillette and Soria followed by a hit-by-pitch to Lopez-Cortez put ducks on the pond for the Red Hawks.
Jamison reached on a fielder's choice to push across the third run as a walk to Welch reloaded the bases.
Morgynn Wyle picked up an RBI on a hit by pitch, followed by an RBI single back up the middle by
Alyssa Valdez, and capped off by a bases-clearing triple by Holen.

Lily Rojas needed as she picked up the win in five innings of work as the Red Hawks won in run-rule fashion, 11-2.
Rojas scattered five hits and allowed two runs as she picked up her fourth win of the year.
Vaillette led the Simpson bats with a three-hit game followed by a two-hit performance by Soria.
The Red Hawks concludes its two-week road trip tomorrow as they take on Park-Gilbert tomorrow with the twin-bill starting at 11 am.
