REDDING, Calif. - The men's volleyball squad took down DII opponent and PacWest member, Jessup University in straight sets.
The Red Hawks jumped out to the early 4-1 lead on a kill by
Akira Davies and an ace by
Quinn Wright.
Simpson doubled up the Warriors as they held the 8-4 lead on a kill by
Nathan Richards and back-to-back aces by Davies.
The Red Hawks went on a key 4-1 run to create separation on kills by Davies and Richards to take the 23-18 lead before the Red Hawks took the 25-20 first-set victory.
Simpson jumped on the board first in set two on a duo block by
Jacob Shelton and Richards.
The Warriors held the 8-5 lead before Simpson went on an 8-2 run to take the 13-10 lead.
Richards notched a pair of kills and blocks while Davies and
Francis Gates picked up a kill.
With the game tied at 19, Simpson went on a huge 3-0 run on three straight kills by
Flavio Mercado.

The Red Hawks took the commanding 2-0 match lead on a service error to take the second set 25-22.
Jessup took the early 2-0 lead before Simpson tied the game on a kill by Shelton and a solo block by Davies.
The Warriors and Red Hawks rallied back and forth in the third set that saw six lead changes.
Jessup held the late 19-18 lead before the Red Hawks scored three straight points to force a Warriors timeout.
The Warriors pulled within one on its last gasp before Simpson scored three straight points on a kill by Mercado and two straight Warrior miscues.
Richards had a monster game as he picked up a team-high 12 kills and four blocks to go along with a .407 hitting percentage.
Mercado followed close behind with nine kills while Davies posted eight kills and one block as they combined to hit .367.
Nakasato had another solid game with a team-high 25 assists and six digs.
Simpson looks to keep rolling as they hit the road to take on UC Merced on Thursday at 5 pm.
