IRVINE, Calif. - The boys continued it's road trip as they took on Westcliff University today in game one of a three-game set.
Starting pitcher
Eric Winchester came into the day six strikeouts shy of breaking Simpson's career strikeout record of 255 held by Brad Hurn.
The Warriors jumped on Winchester early as they plated three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Winchester broke the record in the bottom of the fourth inning to push his career total to 256.
Simpson got on the board in the fifth inning on
Brady Meeds third long ball of the year to make it a 3-1 game.
But Winchester departed after going five innings and allowed three runs while striking out eight batters.
Relief man
Eddie Avalos came in relief of Winchester but gave up two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on two hits and one Red Hawk error.
Simpson looked to make a comeback as they scratched one run across in the seventh inning on an RBI single by catcher
Jaxon Hotta.
But the Warriors padded its lead as they scored in the ensuing inning to grab the commanding 10-2 lead.
The Red Hawks scattered four runs on eight hits.
Micah Kele and
Brady Meeds led the Red Hawk bats as they each recorded a two-hit performance. Mees recorded two extra-base hits that included a solo shot and a double.
Simpson looks to bounce back tomorrow as the first pitch is penciled in for 11 AM.
