Red Hawks Drop Series to Beacons

REDDING, Calif. - The baseball team dropped the rubber match today to Bushnell 11-10.

The Red Hawks drew first blood in the bottom half of the first with the help of walks and two Bushnell errors to grab the early 2-0 lead.

Simpson pushed across another run in the bottom of the third inning on a Micah Kele single that scored Dominic Folks

A leadoff triple to right field by Kade Kupihea to start the bottom of the fourth inning came across to score in thanks to a two-run homer by Logan Gomes

A no-doubt bomb to left center is the first long ball of the year for Simpson's career home run leader.

Back-to-back singles by Dominic Folks and Titus Sato put two runners on for Maximiliano Lopez

Lopez's clutch two-out RBI single padded Simpson's six-nothing lead over the Beacons after four complete innings.

Bushnell scratched its first run of the game in the top half of the sixth inning on a solo home run.

However, the Red Hawks exploded for four more runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning thanks to five hits.

A Kupihea walk set up Gomes's second bomb of the day. An oppo-two-run bomb found Simpson's soccer field to give Simpson an 8-1 lead.

Back-to-back singles by Folks and Sato followed by a two RBI double by Lopez put Simpson on top 10-1.

After scratching another run across in the sixth inning the Beacons exploded for nine runs in the top half of the seventh inning thanks to seven hits and three Simpson errors to grab the 11-10 lead.

Simpson could not get things going in the final three frames as they went down in order in each inning.

Dominic Folks and Maximiliano Lopez led the Red Hawk bats with three-hit performances.

Logan Gomes provided the power as he recorded two homers and four RBIs for the game.

Garrett Brodgon had a quality start but earned the no-decision as he went 6.0 innings while allowing two runs and striking out nine beacon batters.

Simpson looks to bounce back on Tuesday for a doubleheader when they take on D2 opponent Chico State.
