Simpson Wins Crucial Road Game Against CSUM

VALLEJO, Calif. - The men's basketball team picked up a huge road win over Cal State University Maritime, 75-65. 
 
 


The Red Hawks drew first blood on a jump shot by Sam Shields to give Simpson the early lead. 

Followed by back-to-back three-pointers by Kyle Brennon and Drey Ubas

Kevin Robello padded Simpson's lead to 11 points after nailing back-to-back three-pointers. 

The Keelhaulers nailed a few buckets of its own and pulled within three points late in the first half. 

However, Osumanu Nuhu picked up a jumper for the final points of Simpson's first half of play. 

The Red Hawks headed into the half up 39-30 with most major categories favoring Simpson. 

Points of turnovers (9-2), bench points (24-15), and points in the paint (18-12). 

Drey Ubas and Kevin Robello led the Red Hawks in the first half with a team-high 10 points each. 

Brennon owned the first points of the second half with a three-pointer to pad Simpson's lead back up to 11 points following a CSUM free throw. 

After exchanging buckets the Keelhaulers broke through and grabbed its first lead of the night 53-52. 

But Simpson answered back with a Sam Shields three-pointer to reclaim the lead. 

The Red Hawks never looked back as they grew it's lead back up to 10 points with buckets from Garrett Steufert, Parker Martens, Drey Ubas, and Kyle Brennon

Simpson would hold onto the 75-65 lead to close out the road win in Vallejo, CA. 

The Red Hawks registered four different players with double-digit games. 

Drey Ubas and Kyle Brennon led the team with 14 points each. 

Followed close behind by Trey Conrad, who posted 13 points and three rebounds. 

Kevin Robellow finished with 10 points while shooting 4-6 from the floor to round out the double-digit performances. 

With the win, the Red Hawks keep pace in the Cal Pac playoff race as they are in the sixth and final playoff spot. 

Simpson will return home this Saturday to take on Pacific Union College at 8:30 PM.
