Simpson Win's Second Straight Game In a Week

GREDDING, Calif. - The men's basketball team picked up its second win this week as they defeated Pacific Union 71-60 last night.

Simpson came out of the gates hot as they scored the first six points of the game from buckets by Parker Martens, Drey Ubas, and Garrett Steufert.

Everything clicked for Simpson in the first half as nine out of the ten players who recorded minutes on the court registered points.

A 12-3 Red Hawks run included buckets from Derek Gorden Osumanu Nuhu, Parker Martens, Kevin Robello, and Sam Shields helped pad Simpson's largest lead of the game to 21.

The Red Hawks would go on to dominate the Pioneers in the first half as they outplayed PUC: points in the paint, bench points, and 2nd chance points.

Kevin Robello led the way with a team-high eight points while shooting 3-4 from the floor with two three-pointers in the first half of play.

But the Pioneers came out of the gate and drew first blood on back-to-back buckets before a Martens free throw broke the 5-0 run.

The Red Hawks and Pioneers would exchange buckets back and forth in what seemed to be a 10-point Red Hawk lead for much of the second half.

The Pioneers would come as close to within seven points late in the second half.

But buckets by Drey Ubas, Derek Gorden, and Sam Shields would pad Simpson's lead back to double-digits.

Simpson closed the game with a Ubas jumper to seal the 71-60 home victory.

Garrett Steurfert had a big game in the paint as he registered a team-high 12 points and eight rebounds.

Derek Gorden had quite the night by scoring a team-high 12 points to go along with four rebounds.

Kevin Robellow followed close behind with 11 points with a team-high three three-pointers.

The Red Hawks are in the sixth and final playoff spot with the win as they head to SoCal on Thursday to take on La Sierra.
