Box Score REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks and Raiders faced adversity challenges before the game ever took place. The game was originally supposed to be played in Ashland, OR. However, due to the air quality from fire in the area, the game was moved to Simpson's Soccer Field. With that being said, the game was also delayed 45 minutes due to a miscommunication in the starting game time.
The Raiders struck first in the 33rd minute with the lone goal of the game that was the difference maker. However, the Simpson defense rallied for the next 65 minutes of the game. It proved to be a low-scoring affair that relied on the support of the combined effort of goalies
Kiah Gridley and
Brianna Whitehurst. The combined effort allowed one goal and 12 saves on 18 shots.
Senior
Taylor Barker narrowly missed the equalizing shot in the 82nd minute when her shot went off of the right post.
Coach Carrera stated the importance of today's game and the resilience showed by his team, "SOU is a top program. I love the challenge and I'm proud of our team for playing toe to toe with them. We created opportunities and defensively we stepped up to the game," he stated.
Carrera believes that the team is destined for greatness as they are hungry for more. "This is a very special group," Carrera says, "We have very good players who will keep fighting. I'd like to continue to see the support and to see the great culture that we are building."
The Red Hawks will be on the road and travel north up to Klamath Falls to take on Oregon Tech this Wednesday, Aug. 23rd at 3:30 PM.
