IRVINE, Calif. - The women's soccer team concluded its SoCal road trip with a split as they fell to Westcliff today, 2–0.
Two early Westcliff goals in the first half proved to be the difference as the Warriors scored in the opening minutes on a goal by Kuuipo Laumatia.
The Warriors added an insurance goal in the 15th minute on a goal by Bell Hicken with an assist by Valery Cruz.
The Warriors and Red Hawks took their respective shots throughout the game as they combined for 25 shots, with the Red Hawks firing six shots on goal compared to the Warriors' four.
However, the Westcliff goalkeeper, Lola Carson, turned away the Red Hawks as she picked up the clean sheet while tallying six saves. Simpson's Jenna Sosa suffered the loss as she registered two saves.
With the loss, Simpson is tied for the second spot in the Cal Pac standings with Pacific Union College. The Red Hawks have a pivotal matchup this week on Thursday against Pacific Union at 5 pm as they celebrate senior night. With a win, they will earn the #2 seed and face Dakota State in the semifinal game. However, anything short of a win would result in a date against #1 Westcliff as the #4 seed.
