REDDING, Calif. - The women's soccer team got its first conference win of the year as they took down Stanton University 1-0 on a late goal by
Maylania Mikaele.
The Red Hawks and Elks held each other off the scoreboard for over 80 minutes as neither team could find the back of the net.
The Elks came close to breaking the scoreless tie in the 76th minute as Maja Sindeby alluded Simpson's goal keeper for a wide-open goal. But
Lillie Rainwater made a huge defensive save as she denied the go-ahead goal.
Simpson answered on a long crossing pattern by Elliana Keiser that went off the Elks keeper and found the foot of Mikaele to score the game-winner.
Jenna Sosa picked up the clean sheet as they recorded six saves to earn her third win of the year between the posts.
With the win, Simpson moves to 1-1 in conference play as they continue play on Friday in Angwin, CA, as they take on Pacific Union College.
Mikaele's goal marked her second goal on the home stand as she leads the team with two goals in conference play.
