Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Simpson University women's soccer kicked off its season this past week with a pair of road matches against Bushnell University and Multnomah University.

The trip to Oregon was extremely successful as the Red Hawks dominated both matches shutting out their opponent, 2-0.

In the season opener against Bushnell, SU's Hannah Gonzales got the Red Hawks their first goal of the season off an assist from Chloe Tague. Simpson didn't slow down with the one-goal lead, as Haylee Ward found the back of the net for Simpson's second goal of the match. Kiah Gridley and Brianna Whitehurst split the duties in between the goal posts combining for the clean sheet.

In Saturday's match against Multnomah University, SU rotated Gridley and Whitehurst in goal, each getting 45 minutes and again combining for the clean sheet. SU's back line and midfield deserve credit for their ability to make tackles and clearances out of the box and prevent easy opportunities in front of goal for the Lions.

Hannah Gonzales scored the two goals for Simpson with one assisted by Taylor Barker and the other by Haylee Ward. The freshman begins her collegiate career with three goals in two matches and helped the Red Hawks get their first two victories of the season.

The Red Hawks pick up the 2022 season right where they left off last year with two impressive defensive performances and two victories. The team culture is already beginning to form and the work ethic that has come from the coaching staff and the players is already showing early in the season.

SU will look to continue its hot start at home on Wednesday, August 24th, when they face Oregon Tech.
