REDDING, Calif. - Simpson Women's Basketball Head Coach, Edgar Mendez, announced on May 27th the signing of incoming freshman, Sonia Urbina.

Urbina is from Indio, CA and was the three-year starting point guard for Shadow Hills High School.

She became the third player in school history to surpass the 1000 career points in only three seasons.

Urbina was named the Desert Empire MVP this past season while leading the Shadow Hills team to a 27-5 record and a trip to the CIF Division Three Southern Section Championship Game. She was also selected to the Second Team All-Division Three in California.

She had a tremendous senior season averaging 17 points per game, 2.8 rebounds per game, 3.2 assists per game and 4.2 steals per game.

"I'm so excited about Sonia," Mendez said. "She is an amazing young talent on and off the floor. She knows exactly what she wants and is not afraid to work hard for it. She is an athletic, high-IQ scoring point guard who can score at all three levels. She also understands the importance of the defensive side of the ball. She is a culture kid who will enhance our program in a variety of ways. We are blessed to welcome her into our Simpson Family."
