VALLEJO, Calif. - Cal Pac Player of the Year,
Anna Marshall, had a career night as she posted a double-double 30-point performance to help send the Red Hawks past Stanton, 80-64, into tomorrow's Cal Pac Championship game.
The Elks started strong as they jumped out to the early 10-point lead as Simpson rallied to cut the lead in half on a layup and a and-one free throw by Cal Pac Newcomer of the Year,
Destiny Nichols.
Simpson flipped the script in the second quarter as they outscored the Elks 23-10 to take the 37-32 lead into the half.
Four straight points by
Haily Garcia to begin the second quarter pulled Simpson within one before 1st Team All-Conference selection,
Andrea Perez, gave Simpson its first lead of the night on a mid-range jumper. Perez followed up the bucket with a three-pointer to give Simpson the 23-22 lead.
A jumper by Marshall to close out the half gave Simpson the five-point advantage as Perez had a big second quarter with 11 points, while Marshall added eight points.
A back-and-forth third quarter saw the Red Hawks extend their lead to 61-55 heading into the fourth quarter.
A dominant fourth quarter saw the Red Hawks outscore Stanton 19-9 to take the 80-64 victory to move into tomorrow's championship game against Northern New Mexico at 8 pm.
Marshall had a monster game as she posted a double-double with 30 points and 10 rebounds.
Perez followed close behind with 18 points as she led the team with three three-pointers, while Nichols rounded out the double-digit performances with 14 points.
