VALLEJO, Calif. - The women's basketball team wrapped up its regular season play yesterday as they fell on the road to Cal Maritime, 65-58. However, even with the loss, the Red Hawks earned the #1 seed in the upcoming Cal Pac tournament as they finished with one more conference win over Cal Maritime.
The Red Hawks went into the first half with a 25-22 lead as they outscored the Keelhaulers in the first and second quarters, 16-14 and 9-8.
Anna Marshall led the Red Hawks with 10 first-half points while
Andrea Perez notched seven rebounds.
However, the Keelhaulers answered back with a huge fourth quarter as they outscored Simpson 26-15 to take the 48-40 lead.
The final five minutes in the third quarter proved to be all Cal Maritime as they went on a 12-5 run, as a three-pointer by Perez and a jumper by Marshall to end the third quarter kept Simpson within striking distance as they headed into the fourth quarter.
Cal Maritime grew its largest lead of the night to 14 points with just under three minutes left in regulation before the Red Hawks rallied for 10 straight points as
Moriah Bowles and Marshall connected from beyond the arc and Te'niyah Lindsey posted a bucket and a pair of free throws.
But the Keelhaulers prevailed as they closed out the 65-78 victory on three free throws.
Marshall led the Red Hawks with 21 points while
Destiny Nichols followed close behind with 17 points.
Perez just missed a double-double as she posted nine rebounds and 10 points.
Simpson looks forward to the upcoming Cal Pac tournament, as they earned the #1 seed and the bye as they await the winner of Stanton and Pacific Union. Simpson's next game will be on March 1st at 5:30 pm.
